Heart of the City is gearing up to release their first full-length self-titled album through Hand Drawn Records on August 24th, and it’s something to get excited about, not just for the band, but for fans as well! Driven by singer/songwriters Francisco Estrada and Brandon CalliesHeart of the City has a distinct sound that mixes a throwback style of soul, straight up rock, and the bounce of hip-hop.

What’s great about Heart of the City’s sound is the way it translates to hit a wide range of music fans.  Songs like “Dancing With the Devil” and “Stash” are sure to make you dance, while tracks like “End of Suffering” and “The River” turn up the gain a little bit to add some grit. There is an honesty in the songwriting. A beautifully written heaviness designed to ride the line between joy and pain.

Uniquely their own, you could easily find this band playing on the street in a bustling neighborhood or raising the roof while fans raise their feet and dance on those old hardwood floors in a dancehall. This band has a sound that grooves and is meant to pop off and echo from the buildings in a downtown area.

If you’re looking for an added element of instrumentation that doesn’t come around as often as it should, Joshua Billingsley’s trumpet playing adds that New Orleans style element to the mix, while Richard Panter’s pocket drum style and Taylor Autry’s piano suggest an undeniable Motown feel.
