“Hail to the King” by Avenged Sevenfold

– By Brandon Callies –

RATING: “PUSH PLAY”

Avenged-Sevenfold-Hail-to-the-King

Avenged Sevenfold is back with a new album Hail to the King, and it’s their best work since City Of Evil. The new record is chalked full of signature Avenged Sevenfold elements, but with a twist.

This album has more of a slow, death march feel to it. Songs like “This Means War” and “Requiem” are reminiscent of Metallica’s “Sad But True.” The closest resemblance to older and faster Avenged Sevenfold is the song “Coming Home,” but the new direction is a welcome change. The band’s last album Nightmare seemed to be a failed attempt at capturing what was for the act, while Hail to the King is a look to the future. It’s possible that Avenged Sevenfold finally is back to writing music for themselves instead of for the radio.
