– The Phuss by Dustin Blocker –
RATING: “PUSH PLAY”
The Phuss’ brand of heavy is askew, ever so slightly from their contemporaries, as their macho swagger never tangles with their incisive sensibilities. The Fort Worth three-piece burns through 31 minutes of slithering, seductive rock on their self-titled sophomore release, and the result is as viscous, as it is intense.
The album’s single “Stupid Girl” is an immediate standout and a microcosm of the record; brazenly balancing dynamics between beefy slipshod rawk and brainy technical precision. It’s not all muscle and sinew, “Answer ME” and “You Outta Know” reflect the band’s pension for cockeyed sonic ingenuity. Organized chaos at its best.
Aggressive. Sexy. Smart. “PUSH PLAY”.
