ON TOUR MONTHLY

“Almanac” by Widowspeak

RATING: “PUSH PLAY”

Listening to the sophomore studio record Almanac by two-piece indie-chillwave band Widowspeak can be likened to putting your head into a downy cumulus cloud. The pulsing instruments passing like air under the weight of Molly Hamilton’s vocal fog. Tracks appear and pass with sleepy whimsy; resolute in their function, but never lifting the pressure above diastolic.

The lethargy is welcomed as each refrain segues dreamily into the next with unique musicianship by Robert Earl Thomas. Lap steel, harmoniums, and tremolo guitars peak to crescendo amongst Hamilton’s poised oral ambling.
